Major Appointments:
• Since 2001 he is Director of the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (NNL) at Lecce University where he is currently leading an interdisciplinary team of about 100 researchers (including physicists, chemists, biologists, and engineers) and technicians.
• Since 2003 Adviser to the CNR “Commissaire” for the reform of the research institutes.
• Since 2003 member of the Ministerial Commission on the Centres of Excellence.
• Since 2002 member of the experts panel of the MURST Technical Secretariat for the drafting of National Research Plan.
• Since 2001 member of the European Commission Sixth Frame Program for the priority “Nanotechnology, new materials and new production systems”.
• Since 2001 Director of the Innovative Materials and Technologies Department of Lecce University-ISUFI (Istituto Superiore di Formazione Interdisciplinare).
• Since 2001 member of the Nucleo di Valutazione of the Regione Puglia and adviser to the Governor for the technological and scientific policies in the Puglia area.
• From 2000 to 2003 he was executive Vice-president of the National Institute for the Physics of the Matter (INFM).
• Since 2000 Full Professor of General Physics at the Engineering faculty, University of Lecce.
• From 1988 to 1991 he was staff member at the Max Planck Institut for Festkoerperforschung in Stuttgart (Germany).
• In 1997 Invited Professor at the Tokyo University in 1997.
R. Cingolani is European Coordinator of two European projects in the nanotechnology area of Fifth Frame Program, for the actions “Research and Technology Development” and “Future Emerging Technology”.
R. Cingolani is author or co-author of about 400 papers in international journals, and 15 patents.

Awards and Honors
He received awards in 1980 and 1981 by the Philips company (European Contest for Young Scientists and Inventors), in 1985 and 1990 by the Italian Physical Society (Young scientists’ price), in 2000 (the INFM-Ugo Campisano price), and in 2001 (the ST-Microelectronics price of the Italian Physical Society). |
