She received her B.S. with Honors in Civil Engineering at the University of Calabria.
In 1992, she won a one year post-graduate scholarship, developing her activity at the University of Guildford, U.K.
In September 1998 she received her PhD in “Composites Materials for Civil Applications”.
In 1996 she became Structural Engineering Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Lecce, where she turned into Full Professor of Structural Engineering in 2011.
She was member of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Service for Orientation, Formation/Training and Tutoring of the University of Lecce and she was member of the National Committee of Admission Test for the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture.
She was member of the Council of Department of Engineering for Innovation, University of Salento and Head of the Didactic Council of Civil Engineering.
She is member of the Council of the Doctorate “Engineering of Materials, Structures and Nanotechnology at the University of Salento.
She is Director of the Laboratory of Structural Mechanics and Structural Engineering of the University of Salento and Coordinator of the Structural Engineering team.
She was member of the Gender Equality Committee.
She hold the following courses: Structural Engineering, Design of Structures under Seismic Loading Conditions, Structural Design.
She has participated to numerous National and International Conferences and, for some of them, she was member of the Scientific or Organizing Committee. She was Coordinator of Specialist Workshop and Seminar in the field of Structural Engineering.
She is member of the fib Commitee, “Bond between Reinforcement and Concrete”, of the RILEM TC “Composites for sustainable strengthening of masonry “, of the COST Action TU1207 , of the T.G. RILEM TC MSC – Masonry Strengthening with Composite Materials. She has contributed to the layout of the technical document DT 200/2004 and DT 200 R1/2013 of the CNR.
She is/was involved and in some cases Scientific Coordinator of different Research Projects; she is reviewer for several international journals.
The main research fields, in which she worked and/or is still working, are: retrofitting of existing RC and masonry structures with innovative material systems, seismic vulnerability of existing structures, short and long term behavior of FRC beams, use of recycled materials in concrete elements .
She wrote 260 scientific publications, more than 180 of which published on International Journals and Proceedings of International Conferences.
