# Activities

The Department of Engineering for Innovation focuses on new technologies and aims at promoting and disseminating technology innovation. The Department is active in the research fields of Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Controls and Robotics, Industrial Engineering and Management, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications.

# People

The Department has a research permanent academic staff of 100, most of them are affiliated with the Schools of Engineering and Science, a technical/administrative staff of 15, 17 non-permanent researchers, 15 administrative and over 100 PhD students and collaborators working in several research projects.

# Facilities

The Department is mainly located in the Ecotekne campus, the area that hosts the scientific and business faculties, in the buildings 'Corpo O' and 'Stecca'. Part of the Department is also the TANDETRON laboratory located in the 'Cittadella della Ricerca' in Brindisi (where part of the activities of the School of Engineering are developed). The Department hosts in his buildings also the Lecce division of the Microelectronics and Microsystems Institute part of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, the Lecce division of the 'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia' and 'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare', the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (center of excellence in Nanotechnology) and divisions of the companies Agilent and STMicroelectronics.

# Results

Many prestigious results and awards have been and are currently obtained by the Department research staff at international level in several research areas. Research activities have been carried out in several national and international projects funded by the Italian Ministry for Education University and Research, by main Italian research centers (ENEA, ASI CNR, INFM, INFN) and by the European Union (in the FP5, FP6 and FP7 programs).

# Scientific collaborations

The Department cooperates with several multinational companies, as the above mentioned AGILENT and STMicroelectronics, with national and local companies, with research consortia partially controlled by the University of Lecce as PASTIS, OPTEL and CETMA (all located in the Cittadella della Ricerca at Brindisi) and with local agencies (e.g. Regione Puglia, Provincia di Lecce). The Department has also ongoing collaborations with many International universities and research centers.

# Territory relations

The Department has strong collaborations with both public entities and the production chain in the surrounding area thus providing concrete answers to the demand for technological innovation in several fields of application.
